Prom Night 2012

I promise these are my pajamas and not my regular clothes. Please don't shun me blogosphere!

American schools have this crazy tradition each year for the upperclassmen, Seniors and Juniors, called Prom. A night of magic, lights and dancing.  A night where girls dress up like Cinderella, but are allowed to stay past midnight.
But before you go to Prom, you must be asked.

So, my friend, Lisa, and I were sitting in my room watching Angus, Thongs, and Full Frontal Snogging. A movie that is so bad it's good. Also, it's British.  When suddenly my father opens the door to my room and says "Annika...get up...there's something at the door...for you..."  You see, it was one in the morning, and I was quite hungry, so I immediately assumed that my parents had ordered pizza for us.  But, instead of a pizza guy holding a pepperoni pizza with chili flakes, there is a single candle sitting at my front door. I look to my right and there is another candle. And another. And, sure enough, there was a trail of candles leading down my driveway, through my front gate, and down a hill to a field, where my best friend, Alistair, was standing.  Behind him was the word, "PROM?" written in big candle letters.
I was rather disappointed to see he didn't have pizza, but obviously I said, "Yes."

Prom Night was everything I expected it to be and more.  I got ready with one of my closest friends, Lorraine.  Then was picked up by both her date, Chris, and mine, Alistair, to meet some other friends for dinner at La Fondue.
After delicious cheese and chocolate fondue, we drove to the St. Regis and danced the night away.

One word to describe this fairytale night?
Priceless.

Visited  a palace. No big deal.
There isn't much else to say.  Except that I'm back home in the good old +65. Singapore.
But at least something super exciting is happening.  Care to take a guess? Well, my friend from Germany is coming to visit for a week! The lovely and amazing Lisa Thieler :)
I am practically jumping out of my skin. I am that excited.

I hope you all have a lovely week.

Last day in Istanbul and my mother was super sick.  So, my father took us out to visit the Grand Bazaar.  It was a zoo in there, a very wild and hard to maneuver through zoo.  Because of our blonde hair, we so obviously looked like tourists and the store owners were trying to lure us into their carpet stores and souvenir shops.  My little sister, Isabella, was brought into one store for a scarf but instead left with a blunt, ornamental dagger. I'm not sure how that worked, but I should probably not question it.  That seems like the best option.
Other things we bought on our grand adventure (hur hur see what I did there?) include yummy chicken kebabs, the best rice in the world, and bread worth one lira. We were feeling adventurous, so we decided to go into a local restaurant for lunch. It was completely worth it.  Nom nom nom.

Arkadaşlarım merhaba!
Happy Spring Break everyone! What are you up to this fine week?
I'm vacationing in Turkey.  I've only been here for a day, but I've already seen so much and eaten such great food.  I know I'll gain 10 pounds by the end of my trip.
We went to the Hagia Sophia, which is just a 5 minute walk away from our hotel. It's in my AP Art History textbook, so I was flipping out.  The Hagia Sophia was much cooler than my textbook made it out to be.  It was like the pages of my textbook were coming alive, the Byzantine mosaics were jumping out and saying hello.
We have yet to visit tons more mosques and other things, as well as eat many, many more pomegranates.
Have a wonderful Sunday :)

Annika

Bras Basah Road

Shirt - Far East // Skirt - H&M // Boots - Doc Marten's
I am made for SAM.
The Singapore Art Museum is holding a new exhibition called Chimera.  It was SOOOO cool. The exhibit is opened until March 25 and I suggest, if you live in Singapore, to go visit. There is an assortment of works that use sound and video as well as works that are painted to look like photographs and much more.
If you're interested in finding out more about the exhibit click here.

I would also like to apologize for my lack of posts recently. I just haven't been in the best of moods, but why be sad when I can be happy right?
Also, I still have photos to share of London, but I'm not sure what to do with them....hmmmmmmm...only time will tell.
Anyway, I hope all of you are doing wonderfully with Prom season rolling around :)

love,
Annika
