Prom Night 2012

I promise these are my pajamas and not my regular clothes. Please don't shun me blogosphere!

American schools have this crazy tradition each year for the upperclassmen, Seniors and Juniors, called Prom. A night of magic, lights and dancing.  A night where girls dress up like Cinderella, but are allowed to stay past midnight.
But before you go to Prom, you must be asked.

So, my friend, Lisa, and I were sitting in my room watching Angus, Thongs, and Full Frontal Snogging. A movie that is so bad it's good. Also, it's British.  When suddenly my father opens the door to my room and says "Annika...get up...there's something at the door...for you..."  You see, it was one in the morning, and I was quite hungry, so I immediately assumed that my parents had ordered pizza for us.  But, instead of a pizza guy holding a pepperoni pizza with chili flakes, there is a single candle sitting at my front door. I look to my right and there is another candle. And another. And, sure enough, there was a trail of candles leading down my driveway, through my front gate, and down a hill to a field, where my best friend, Alistair, was standing.  Behind him was the word, "PROM?" written in big candle letters.
I was rather disappointed to see he didn't have pizza, but obviously I said, "Yes."

Prom Night was everything I expected it to be and more.  I got ready with one of my closest friends, Lorraine.  Then was picked up by both her date, Chris, and mine, Alistair, to meet some other friends for dinner at La Fondue.
After delicious cheese and chocolate fondue, we drove to the St. Regis and danced the night away.

One word to describe this fairytale night?
Priceless.

Annika

Creepers

Hello sunshine!
I've had the best few weeks.  I spent my Halloween weekend in Indonesia at a place called Telunas where I spent the halcyon days laughing with fellow art geeks, painting, drawing, and swimming to my hearts content.  Bliss.
The last weekend I spent my days with friends shopping and eating and catching up.  At the same time I went to the fabulous Titanic Exhibit at the ArtScience Museum.  It was amazing to say the least.  They had remakes of the first class and third class rooms, the boiler room and so many other iconic spots. It was like you were actually on the Titanic!  It was a great exhibition and if you live in Singapore, please make sure you go.  It's great.
And finally today, I'm just finishing up two history papers and watching Suburgatory.  Have an amazing rest of the week everyone :)

Annika

Better pictures with better light will come soon. The light and sunshine has not been quite what it normally is, but I promise. Better pictures soon.
And I'll be out of my backyard and on the sweet, sweet sand in no time :)

Well hello!
VINTAGE. LETTERMAN. JACKET!
Does that make you excited or what?!  Or is that just me?
...I'm going to pretend that it's not just me.  But, GAH! I was practically jumping out of my skin when I found this in a little vintage store in Hong Kong.
There are no words.
My life has been quite the school oriented mess.  I have exams in a few weeks and I will need to study, study, study!  But I have this one really adorable exam for  Studio Art; we are making children's books.  We are meant to illustrate and write our own personal stories in a way that little kid's can understand ie. animals, simple wording, etc.  My story is about an armadillo.

Once upon a time there was an armadillo, but you see, this armadillo was afraid.  He was afraid of the world around him.  He was afraid of what animals would say about him, about what animals would do, about what they would think of him.
So he hid in his shell.
He hid, away from the world and shut everyone out.  He hid for days, then months, then years.  Soon, nobody remembered the poor armadillo and acted as if he never existed.
But, after those many years, a hermit crab scuttled up to where the armadillo was hiding and knocked. *knock knock knock* "Hellloooooo, anybody home?"
No reply.
*knock knock knock* "Why are you hiding from me!"
The armadillo poked out his head and timidly said "I...I'm scared..."
Then the hermit crab laughed. He laughed and said "Why are you afraid? Come on boy, get out of your shell.  Look at the world around you! Look at the tree's, look at the sky, look at the bushes!  Why would you spend your whole life hiding when you have all this to explore!"
The hermit crab told the armadillo of it's adventures around the world.  He had gone to Paris and eaten crepes.  He had tea and crumpets with the queen. He went to china and ate with chopsticks.
Once he had finished, the hermit crab held out his hand and nodded for the armadillo to hold it.
As unsure as the armadillo was, he took it.
He uncoiled himself and showed his face for the first time in years.  He stretched his legs out, he straightened his back, he stood up.
And took his first steps into the big, wide world.

There's my story :)  Let me know what you think and what to change and make better!  I'll be sure to take pictures of the final project when I'm done!!

love you all!
happy weekend,
Annika

Stanley Market

I found overalls! Full length overalls!
I was just recently in Hong Kong over the weekend!  Quite the fun time.
We went to the Ladies Market, Stanley Market, and Disneyland.  And let me tell you, I have bought the coolest things ever!  One of which is a vintage letterman jacket, which you will be seeing a lot of soon.  We also ate delicious bao and rice and spring rolls. Mmmm mmmm mmm.  There were these delicious sesame buns with custard, if any of you know what I'm talking about let me know what the name of it is because I am definitely going to need dozens of boxes of them!
How was everyone else's weekend and labour day? I'll post some pictures in the future about disneyland...for now I need to study for my Algebra II/Trigonometry test.
Have a great Wednesday! :)

Annika

The Prawn

If there was a vote for who was best dressed at prom yesterday, this boy would win.
Hands. Down.  Gah. I wish I got a better picture of him!
He's wearing a denim shirt, khaki jacket, gingham tie, skinny jeans and black shoes.
Which way is up? Trippy......
Because I'm not an upperclassmen my friends and I worked the ticket stand, still SO MUCH FUN!
So, yesterday was my prom! Well technically not my prom, but I went and worked at prom.  I was able to party it up between shifts though. I had a blast!  As you can see I decided to wear the gold dress with feathers instead of the black  one.  They were both beautiful, but I felt like the gold one was a little more elegant and still had a good balance between fun and unpredictable.  I loved how the other dress was a little more edgy, but I didn't think I should wear it to prom.  I will definitely figure out a way to wear it somewhere else, you just wait and see ;)  Hmmm...maybe an oversized suit jacket and some grunge boots...hmmm...
I hope everyone had an amazing prom, and HAPPY EASTER!
Everyone make sure to sink their teeth into one of those delicious chocolate bunnies :)

Up, up and away,
Annika

Two dresses, one night.

Prom. Prom. Prom.
Possibly one of the biggest nights of a high school girls life. And I am stuck, let's call it "style block".  I'm so witty, hur hur.
I can't decide between these two beautiful dresses!
Ok, you will probably look at these dresses and think "Annika! These dresses look exactly the same!".  But I am one of those crazy perfectionists, and I can't seem to decide which one is the best!
I need your help! Take a look at these dresses, and leave a comment saying which one is the better choice, please!

Dance to the beat of your own drum

sorry...my hands are gross.
photos by Rachael Hyde
My god Rachael Hyde.  I have no clue how you do it, I really don't.
So, I told you I'd show you more pictures of the military and/or band jacket! And I did!!! Ah. I'm so proud of myself haha.
Off to a more complete paragraph.
Today, after she went to church, Rae Rae came over, this was after like months of trying to get each others schedules right -.- But let me tell you, it was totally worth it.  We took a bunch of photos (two separate shoots), goofed around, ate Easy Mac (gift from God), and TONS of bread.  Mmmmm bread.  After that, Rach had to go do homework. Lame. Hahaha so, I went to AnchorPoint with Lala and we did the usual: go to 7/11, get whatever we are in the mood for, go down the escalators and get Bubble Tea, and finally end up in CottonOn where we buy useless, yet amazing, items of whatever is there.  It was her birthday on Saturday and she is now 16!  Happy Birthday, Lala.  I would write more but Laken is being annoying and checking my blog every second, so I need to post sometime soon.  She also would like to say "hello" to the world.
hello world,
Annika

OH! OH YA! I HAVE MORE THAN 100 FOLLOWERS!!!!! It happened on Thursday. My mother took me out to celebrate. At Burger King. With those little funnel cakes. It made my week.
I just wanted to say thank you, you guys. You don't know me very well, but you still followed.  It means so much to me, you really don't even know.  If any of you come to Singapore sometime soon, let me know :)
